Consulting/Expert Witness Experience: More than 20 years providing consultation and expert witness services to prosecutors and defense attorneys in the Greater San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the United States, drawing on a unique set of clinical, forensic, and research experience. Have worked in both the criminal and family law courts, with cases involving both male and female defendants, and numerous cases involving intimate partner homicide or attempted homicide. RESEARCH AND PUBLICATIONS: Author/editor of four groundbreaking books, including Gender-Inclusive Treatment of Intimate Partner Abuse (Springer, 2014), and Gender and Domestic Violence: Contemporary Legal Practice and Intervention Reforms (Oxford University Press, 2022). CLINICAL EXPERIENCE: 35 years working with perpetrators, victims and their families. Director of Alternative Behavior Choices court-approved perpetrator treatment program. TRAININGS: For the past 25 years, Dr. Hamel has frequently presented at conferences on domestic violence throughout the world and has provided education and clinical training to thousands of mental health professionals, victim advocates social service organizations, law enforcement, attorneys and family court mediators.
